"Chunk" Short For...

Alright, I'm pretty sure all of you are aware that my nickname is "Chunk". I've stated it before. You've heard others refer to me as Chunk. This blog is called, "Chunk Thoughts"...

But... did you know that I have several nicknames that all originate from "Chunk"?

So here, my friend, is a list of all these nicknames and who calling me them.

Chunkles - Some friends back in my Senior year in high school.

Chunkers - Marty Graverson(started back when I was student leading in his small group)

Chunky True - Jason Mishler(based off of my Xbox Live account)

Chunky - Pastor Dave(this one cracks me up. He'll call me this every time he sees me at the store)

ChunkManYeah - George Wiegand (comes from my Xanga days, back when my blog was called "ChunkManYeah". It also cracks me up, because that's just how he knows me and if you know George, then you'll pretty much understand why it would crack me up. Just the way he says, "CHUNKMANYEAH!!!"

Nuck(or the sound of Chunk backwards. "Knuhc") - Created by Mr. Andrew Moneyheffer(who was the person who gave me the nickname, Chunk) I think he created it because... well... I guess... he thought that Chunk was getting a little old. I mean, everyone started calling me it, even people I didn't really know. He wanted to start something fresh, something he could call me. It wasn't long before more people started calling me Nuck. It eventually died down... and I haven't been referred to "Nuck" in over 9 years. However NucksGhotiCrunch was my screen name for AIM.

Need a new plan...

Ok... so Ryan Walter won't be able to go to Cedar Point in May. Kevin and I still wanna go, but we still want others to go as well. So I thought about this all evening and I have decided to invite myself and Kevin, to go along with this Mr. Jeffrey Simpson fellow. However, we would just drive separate and pretty much camp out instead of staying at The Breakers. We would basically just meet up at the park...

So that's what I'm thinking. Mr. Simpson has a group and he would like others to come... we'll be some of the others.

I'm Ready...

For baseball season!

It's time to put the past behind us again. It's time to forget about how things ended and how things are about to begin. Time to look at how things are gonna be different this time around...

Is this the year? WE hope!
Is this another season to enjoy? Yes!
Should I just look at this one game at a time? No, but I should be looking into the World Series so early... scratch all of that... I'm looking there now! THIS IS THE YEAR!!!

Cedar Point Camping

I am in the middle of planning the annual Cedar Point camping trip. It's gonna be a little earlier this year than previous years. Another difference will be that we will be camping two nights instead of just the one. Also, there are three of us(as of now) that are going. Usually it's just two. Our target dates are May 17-19. Yep, I'm pretty excited about it! We are going to Cedar Point on a Monday, which happens to be the first Monday of the season because CP opens on May 16.

I went to Fort Wayne of the weekend. I lost my car keys and then we found my car keys. Overall, it was a good weekend. It was nice to have two days off. Usually I just get Sunday off.

Went to the Effect last night. That was good. Dustin Gill spoke about fasting. After that, the group went up to IHOP. I rode with Mr. Kevin Larson. We had a nice serious talk. IHOP was all about crazy fun! Haha. After IHOP it was time to play some Call of Duty at Jason Mishler's house... always a good time.

So some things I'm looking forward to...

• Being a small group leader. This Wednesday will be my second week. Last week was a little rocky for me. It was a good night, but I just need to settle in more. I am excited to see what happens with the guys in the small group and I lead them next year. God is gonna do awesome things in their lives.

• Cedar Point - Though I'm not sure whats all gonna happen. I know about 3 different that wanna go sometime either in May or June. I guess I'm gonna have to chose one or try to get everyone to go as one group. That would be fun. Personally, I would prefer to in May. I wanna go during the first week or second week that the park is open. Then it will be small crowds due to everyone in school and stuff.

• I guess this kind of ties in with both of the above, but I can't wait for summer. Summer means Cedar Point and baseball and cookouts and camping. I would like to go to the Jr. High Summer Camp as a leader. That would be fun and a good way to get to know some of the guys in my small group. I can't wait to watch baseball. I hope the Cubs have another good season!! The Effect is gonna be sweet this summer... I think... yeah. It should be!

Last Minute Changes

I hope none of you hate me for this, but I've decided to start this "No Pop" thing on April 1(no fooling). So yeah, my birthday is in March and I wanna have a party with my friends... staying up late and drinking Mountain Dew... like a lot of Mountain Dew! I understand that this does sound pretty stupid, but hey, it's my life.

So April 1 I'll be ready for this!

Remembering Ten Years Ago Today...

CP Memory: Directing Traffic

Towards the end of an operating season, when college kids start to go back to school, Cedar Point will take employees out of certain departments and place them other departments to help out. This happened to me in 2003. In this case, the traffic department needed some help and I was asked... well not really asked... I was just scheduled to direct a week a traffic. So basically all I had to do is stand straight down from the toll booths and point which way the car should go. Simple? Yes, that location was.

However, there this one location that was very frustrating. You basically had to watch like 30 directions and help pedestrians cross and stop the road traffic and the four different entrances and exits of the parking lot and also the motor home/bus parking lot. They kind of want people to gain experience, before tackling that station. Was that the case for me? NO! They placed me there like everyday that week! It SUCKED! Drivers started to tick me off! AHHH! I get very frustrated just thinking about it. I almost caused several minor accidents. That would have been horrible.

I guess my only question is... Why did they place me, a sweep, that was just there to fill in for a week, with not traffic training at all, at the hardest station to direct traffic? Hmm...

So there you have it... a Cedar Point memory that wasn't a good one.

No Pop: Round 2

So... I've been thinking and maybe it's time to start another round of "no pop". Last time, my goal was from Oct. 1, 2008 - Jan. 1, 2009... with the bigger goal being one year. However, I did complete the first goal, which was three months(which is still pretty impressive for me).

This time around, I wanna see how long I can last without pop. I guess there is really no specific goal, but I would like to last longer than three months. I plan to start this on March 1. Lets just see what happens.

CP Memories: Group Sales Pizza

This one is pretty fun. During the 2003 season, whenever Pat(one of my friends) was left in charge, he would usually order some pizza for about 3 or 4 of us. Now, we never wanted to eat the pizza in the break area, because that would mean others would want some. So we had to have a hiding place to eat pizza and what better place than the Season Pass/Group Sales, right outside the park.(if you aren't sure what I'm talking about, it's the building to your left before you enter the park.)

Well The Chief(nickname I gave Pat) was friends with some team leaders that worked in that building, so all he had to do was ask them. But it would depend on which of their supervisors were working. We didn't wanna get any of them or us in trouble. So basically we would just go in there and hangout, eat pizza, and talk. I might also want to add that it was never really our break and sometimes we would sit in there for almost an hour. We shared a lot of good times in that Group Sales building. Pizza Night was done right!

So thanks to the Chief, Marcos Pizza, and the team leaders of Group sales, for making some of my longer nights, worth it.

So like awhile back I started this segment or something called, Cedar Point Memories. Basically it's just me sharing some of my fondest memories of working at Cedar Point back in 2003 and 2004. I actually started sharing a memory but I cut if off only to just give up on it. I should have continued. I apologize for any inconvenience that I might have caused.

Well... I've been thinking and... well, I think I'm gonna fire this thing up again and actually try to write out some memories. So.. yeah, I'm just giving you something to look forward to, because I know how this blog is and it's just getting boring and it's just begging for content. So yeah...

The 25 Random Facts...

So I actually posted this on Facebook, but I think it still counts as a post. Well, Facebook has this virus or something and it is just spreading like crazy. Everyone is writing out notes with 25 random things about themselves and then they just tag others to do it. I was tagged a few times and I decided that I should probably to it as well

Here's what I came up with...

1. I am a quiet person, but also a person who likes to talk alot.
2. I've lived in Nappanee all my life, yet my first job was in Sandusky, OH.
3. When I was a little kid, I had the biggest fear of roller coasters. I was always dragged on and would try anything not to ride them. I would scream, cry, attempt to throw up... whatever. Now I love roller coasters and I'm now the one who gets to drag othes on to them.
4. I have a strong interest in art. Although some may say that I'm a little artistic, I would say, not as artistic as some, but yeah, it is something i have an interest for.
5. I've never been treated in any U.S. ambulance, but I was treated in an ambulance at the airport in Lima, Peru. summer of 2003.
6. When I was a baby, I was in a severe car accident. My mom broke her back, my dad broke his leg, my brother twisted his ankle, and the most fragile in the car, me, had pretty much nothing wrong.
7. I have a mild case of OCD
8. I'm actually a fan of the New England Patriots(probably because I am so anti-Colts)
9. All three of the jobs I've had have been right off of US 6.
10. I'm not a fan of these types of notes.
11. I'm a huge fan of the number "11".
12. Some might say that I have an obsession with Wendy's... this is true.
13. I'm someone who gets a little annoyed when I have to repeat myself, such as someone might ask the same questions over and over again.
14. I once walked around in Cedar Point around 3:00 AM.
15. I have a fear of Spiders.
16. I love to sing. I'm not a good singer and I know that, but mostly just like to sing alone... driving or whatever.
17. I'm not a big fan of major tv shows such as "24", "Lost", "Survivor", "CSI", "House" and more...
18. I love to tell stories.
19. I love to make others laugh. Although some just don't get me as much as others.
20. I love authentic Mexican food.
21. My favorite "rerun" shows include, "Seinfeld", "King of Queens", "Boy Meets World", and
"The Wonders Years" (though both of the later I've yet to find on tv recently. Are the "Savage" boys not to be aired anymore?)
22. I am in fact, related to Laura Ingalls of "Little House on the Prairie"... though I'm not a big fan of.
23. I enjoy watching movies alone and then just quoting them as I watch.
24. I really don't know much about playing a guitar, yet you can find 6 of them in my apartment.
25. I loved the movie, "The Dark Knight" and it's probably my favorite movie, but I wasn't the biggest fan of "Batman Begins".


When I read this, I realize that there are so many other facts that I should have put that are better than some of these...

The Ceiling looked Haunted...

So... about a week ago I just walk into my bathroom and I look up at the ceiling above my bath tub and I was a little freaked out when I saw this...

It kind of looked like something you would see in some scary movie about a haunted house or something. I was almost expecting some form of insects or creature to just bust out of there. I had to feel it to see what was going on. So I reached up and I could feel that it was just full of water. I figured there was some sort of leak or something. I eventually called the maintenance guy, but he couldn't make it right away. So I was stuck with thing for a few nights. It grew so big and eventually just started to leak.

The maintenance guy came and put a hole and the ceiling to see what the problem was. And the problem was... well, it had to do with the toilet of the tenants that live above me. Ewww! Was this this thing filling up with toilet water? Was it just the toilet water or was it the drainage? Ahhh! So he got that all fixed... well all the plumbing stuff that is. As of now, it's still looking like this...

Yeah, I'm not sure when he is gonna fix the ceiling. I guess I'll give him a call on Monday, to see what's going on.

January...

...wasn't a good blogging month from me. So much going on... well actually not much going on, but still.

So I guess my goal is to have at least 10 posts by the end of the month which is basically by the end of tomorrow. I think this is my 6th post this month, so lets see if I can squeeze at least 4 more in by tomorrow night.

I CAN DO IT!

Frozen Pipes and Winter Tilt-a-Whirl

So, I woke up on Friday morning to no water. Turns out that with all the negative below temps, I had frozen pipes. I called maintenance and they came out with a plumber to check it out. He said he couldn't do anything until Monday due to the fact that he didn't have a machine to thaw the pipes. So I was left with a few options to either just hangout and use other people's water or I could turn my heat all the way up(its free for me) and hope that the heat will warm up the walls and eventually all the plumbing and whatnot. After a few hours, that ended up working. So it was nice to not go a whole weekend without running water.

Also on Friday, I was drove to Milford to drop my friend off and I started driving home down this country road. I wasn't going too fast, but I hit the brakes to slow down and all of the sudden I just start spinning off the road. I was kind of worried about hitting this tree, but I was far enough away that nothing happened. A truck that I was following stopped and backed up to see if I was okay. I was ok, I just drove right on out and continued to drive home. The situation was really not that serious. It was probably about as serious as falling off the couch. I was driving about 25 - 30 MPH and actually slowing down during right before it happened. So that my friend, was like a winter tilt-a-whirl. Fun and scary at the same time... less vomit.

Hmm...

I've got nothing.

I was sick over the weekend. That was not fun, especially it being on first "free" weekend in a long time. It's like my sickness was saying, "Hey, this guy has a whole weekend off, lets just ruin it and make him sick!" However, I did get all the rest I needed and it was nice to just have a relaxing weekend.

It was a pretty busy night. I was still feeling sick when I went to work and I wasn't ready for a busy night. It was busy because of a snow storm warning. I guess it's gonna be pretty big. We'll just have to wait and see.

What Would Make 2009 Awesome...

• To eventually find a roommate
• To see the Cubs have another awesome season, but with the addition of actually doing something in the playoffs
• To actually make it to a Cubs game
• To make a trip to Kings Island
• Spend a vacation in lovely Bushnell, IL(ah, you know what I mean)
• To continue to throw these random parties or whatever...
• Persue college
• Go Skiing
• Get a big group of friends to Cedar Point(maybe in the camping style)
• Maybe meet a girl and start a relationship
• To write a poem or a song(I mean seriously...)
• Most importantly - To deeper my relationship with Christ

This team was suppose to go all the way. All Cubs fans believed that this was the year... more so than other years. It's all you would hear. We were excited! Oh, it was gonna be awesome to witness it! The Cubs had an awesome season that was for sure to lead them to the World Series and end the 100 year drought... but no! The playoffs come and once again we are swept in the NLDS. So much hype going into the season... then into the playoffs and boom... failure.

Merry Christmas

I know it's kind of late on Christmas night, but I wanted to wish all of you a Merry Christmas! I hope everyone had a good day. Also, thanks to those who actually voted on my polls.

I was gonna post on "Christmas Lights", but I think it's a little late for that now... well actually, maybe I'll post something about that tomorrow, if I'm still in a Christmas mood.

Wow, this is probably the first year that I didn't watch a single Christmas episode of Boy Meets World... but then again, this is probably the first full year that I never watch any episode of Boy Meets World, period. Is that show even on anymore? Also, this was the first time that I never even thought about the SNL "I wish it were Christmas today song". I mean, usually during the Christmas season, I am singing all about that song and I just remembered about it today. I guess you can call that a good thing.

Christmas Movie Number 1: A Christmas Story

Well this is it, the number one movie on my list. To tell you the truth, A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation are kind of tied for my favorite Christmas movie. I just gave the slight nod to A Christmas Story, because it's one of the only movie I know that gets it's own 24 hour marathon on TV. So is that a good reason for making it my favorite? No, but to be honest with you, I can sit down on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day and watch this movie three or four times. That's something I can't do with the others on my list.

That's right, school could be in my plans for next fall.

Ideas of where to go and what to study have been flowing through my head. Lets just hope that I make the right decision.

Christmas Movie Number 2: Christmas Vacation

Why I picked it: Well, Christmas Vacation is such a classic comedy. It's got enormous family Christmas trees, a house covered in lights, Cousin Eddie, extreme sledding, electrocuted cats, squirrels jumping out of trees, exploding turkeys, a plastic Santa and reindeer flying through the sky, and much more.

Every year there are a few Christmas movies that me and my family just sit and watch together and this is one of them.(Christmas Movie Number 1 being the other). I come from a family that loves "Vacation" movies. We probably quote those movies more so than any other movie. We will quote lines from Christmas Vacation, whether it is Christmas time or not. If you know me, then you know that I quote lines from movies all the time. If you pay attention, you will probably catch a few from this movie.

Haha... Cousin Eddie is pretty funny in this movie. Haha... It's such a funny movie! You are probably waiting for me to throw in some quotes from this movie, but I'm not gonna. It's more fun to do it in person. So if you wanna discuss this movie, you know where to find me.

Chrismas Movie Number 3: Elf

Why I picked it: First off, I'm a big Will Ferrell fan. From SNL to movies, Will Ferrell has always made me laugh. He makes everyone laugh. Now if any of you are familar with Mr. Ferrell, then you probably already know that he really gets into his roles. He has a lot of fun playing his roles in different sketches and movies and Elf is no exception.

They really couldn't have picked a better actor to play Buddy the elf and it's nice to see Will Ferrell in a family comedy. Buddy shows us the true meaning of Christmas spirit(well not the true, true meaning) but, he does spread holiday cheer.

"The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear."

That's what he does. He travels all the way from the North Pole, through the Forest of candy canes and through the Lincoln Tunnel, to find his real father, who happens to need a little boost on his Christmas Spirit. He also falls in love with a store elf and spreads some Christmas spirit to her as well.

He also teaches us about the four basic food groups, which are:
Candy
Candy Canes
Candy Corns
Syrup

There is so much more that I can say about this movie. It truly is one of my favorite Christmas movies. Even my grandma likes it.

Christmas Movies Number 4: Home Alone

Why I picked it: Well.. It's pretty obvious that this is a classic Christmas comedy. It's mostly of the slap-stick type, but it is the kind you like to watch over and over again. This movie also shows the the importance of having a family around for the holidays, even if you or others can be pain in the butts.

This movie taught us all about love, responsibility, facing our fears, and home security. When I was younger, after watching this movie, I kind of wanted burglars to break into our house. That way it would give me an excuse to set up booby traps. I mean seriously, who wouldn't want to do that? I should also note that Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, was a good sequel. It just didn't make my list because the original is such a classic.

Christmas Movies Number 5: Gremlins

There is actually a debate on whether or not this is a Christmas movie, but it pretty much takes place on Christmas Eve. Lets see, there are Christmas decorations, Christmas music, movies, snowmen, cookies, and Santas... so why wouldn't this be a Christmas movie? Well... it is a Christmas movie and it's number 5 on my list.

Why: Well because it's just a funny movie and it brings something a little different to the genre. I mean who doesn't want to see cute little fury things multiply and then turn into little monsters that terrorize a town on Christmas Eve.?

When I was younger, I always wanted Gizmo as my pet. I'm pretty sure I would remember the following rules.

1. Never bring him into bright light, especially sunlight because that would kill him.
2. Never have have him come in contact with water(unless I wanted more)
3. Never, ever feed him after midnight(because that makes him turn bad)
hmm... I think I have a new one...
4. Never get him to say the phrase, "Deal... or no deal"

Ten Years and Running...

This month marks the tenth year anniversary for my nickname, "Chunk". It's hard to believe that it's been ten years since I've been in Jr. High. So many great memories...

Movies, Games, Parties, and the Holiday Season

My posts have been too short lately and that is never a good thing. I'm very sorry for my lack of... everything. So I have a few things I could probably talk about.

Movies - So I have been watching a lot of movies lately. Most of them are from this past summer. It was a really good summer for movies. Look forward to me discussing or throwing in a mini-review of all the movies I've been watching lately.

Games- (Well, video games to be more specific) So a few months ago my Xbox 360 died on me. I didn't really do anything about it until like a week ago, when I decided that I should just ship it in to get it repaired. So I shipped it in to microsoft and now they are repairing my 360. It will take 2-3 weeks, but that's nothing compared to the 2 months that I've been without it. Now I like video games, but I'm not someone who sits there and plays constantly, I usually play about 2 or 3 days a week. I'm just looking forward to getting this system back so I can get back into playing Rock Band, the best party game ever. So yeah, another system I own, is the Nintendo Wii and I've been playing that with my friends lately. Every time my friends come over, we end up playing Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros. Melee. Both are extremely fun games. Lately I have been craving some Nintendo 64 action... Goldeneye 64, NFL Blitz, RUSH 2, etc. Which kind of brings me to my next topic, "Parties".

Parties- I guess this kind of goes with movies too, but I've been in kind of a party mood lately. A few weeks I had four friends over for a little get together. Yeah, I know four people isn't necessarily a party, but for my small apartment, it is a rockin party. We played games, watched movies, ate pizza, talked, and joked around. It was really good time. It was the first party or whatever that I had in that apartment and I've been living there for over 2 years now. Well now I am thinking about throwing another mini-party, one with a Nintendo 64 theme. So basically we are just gonna play N64 games and Goldeneye 64(the best first person shooter ever period) being the main game. So planning I am.

Holiday Season- Yep, the holiday season is here.... Ok let me rephrase that...The CHRISTmas season is here. That sounds better. Lets just not forget that He is the reason for the season. I guess I kind of say that to myself as a reminder to myself. I guess around this time of year I kind of get into a "Blah la la la la" mood. It's a good mood, but I just end up getting blinded by other things, such as... Christmas Lights(the way the Ingalls look at them), Christmas movies, gifts, food, etc. that I just never look into the real reason of the season. Christ the King is born. I will celebrate that with my friends and family. Yeah!

Well... a post, kind of "nerdy" at times, but it was something to read. I don't feel like looking over grammer or spelling, so if something is wrong... just deal with it. Haha... I type this at the end of the post, so you have already dealt with it. I mean, I should just type that warning at the begining and not the end, but oh well, I'm lazy. Haha... Just don't judge, I guess.

South Park: Elementary School Musical

Yes, I know that South Park is kind of a naughty show, but last night I started watching the episode entitled Elementary School Musical. If any of you are familiar with South Park, then you probably know that they make fun of a lot of stuff, mainly stuff to do with current pop culture. Well last night's episode was pretty much ripping on High School Musical. So yeah, anything that's gonna make fun of that kind of stuff, is gonna be funny to me.

Dr. Pepper Temptation

So for lunch today, I ate at the Pizza Hut buffet. It's something I do now and then, because hey, I like the buffet! So anyway, I walk in and the waiter walks me to my table. He asks what I would like to drink and I tell him, water. I go to the buffet and load my plate with pizza and I head back to my table to see another waitress setting down a glass of pop on my table. Well, this waitress happens to know that I usually order Dr. Pepper so she assumed that I wanted some. I told her that I just ordered water instead. She said, "Oh, I'm sorry. Go ahead and have this Dr. Pepper for free." So I sat there eating my lunch, with a glass of free Dr. Pepper, waiting for me to drink. I didn't give in though. I stuck with the water, but oh was the temptation high.

12 ft High Club

This is a really random little story, but it was something I was thinking about a few days ago. It's kind of funny... maybe not to some. It's little something about when we were sitting on the runway in Florida, waiting for take off.(Dating back to the family cruise vacation)

So like our plane is in line, waiting to take off... well, it was our turn for the runway, but we just sat there. I begin to wonder what is going on? Is there something wrong with our plane? Another plane?

Me: What's going on? Why aren't we taking off?

Nate: I think somebody is in the bathroom.

It turns out he was right, there was someone using the restroom or something. We had to like 15 minutes before they came out.

Me: So why are they taking so long? Are they trying to join the 12 feet high club?

...At the time, it got a laugh from my family, but it probably isn't funny anymore. It's just one of those times where you just have to be there or something.

Somebody probably asks, "What's the 12 feet high club?".... then Billy Idol will smile.

Haha... but still, I laugh.

Congratulations to Geovany Soto for winning the NL Rookie of the Year Award.

This young catcher was probably one of my favorite Cubs this year and I look forward to watching him as he goes further in his career.

Weekend... It's Here!

I'm very happy that it is the weekend! Even though I always have to work on Saturday, I still have Sunday off. I actually work six days a week(something that I'm not a big fan about), so Sunday can never come soon enough.

Now, I don't want this to sound bad or anything, but I kind of wish that on my one day off a week, I could just have the whole day to myself. However, my only day off is Sunday. Sunday has church in the morning and now The Effect in the evening. Sometimes I just wanna stay home from church all together, so I can have more of a personal time. Yes, this sounds bad, but don't worry. If I'm only gonna have one day off a week, I'm glad it is Sunday, because if it wasn't, I would probably miss out on Sunday mornings. So basically, I'm saying that I wish I had another day off, like most people. The second day off can just be all about what I wanna do. Just to make things clear, I'm not going to start skipping church or anything, just so I can have whole day to myself. I was just stating how I feel about just having one day off in general.

So.. that being said, I'm looking very forward to Sunday. I'm glad that I have started going to The Effect. I really feel it's something I need right now. I needed it a long time ago, but due to my selfish attitude, I wanted nothing to do with it, so I stopped going.

The Bears play the Titans on Sunday and I guess I'm just gonna go with the Bears losing... unless Sexy Rexy can show up with a good game against the undefeated Titans.

Lets Talk "Change"

I'm thinking my blogs need to start to change or something. I always seem to get on this habit of writing out a small blog post, kind of like this one.

At least I have a more consistent blog... something I couldn't say a year ago, or even two years ago.

Seriously though, Nappanee needs a Wendy's! ...or a Taco Time.

Working at a grocery store, you can run into times where you are surrounded by pop. Oh how I crave a Dr. Pepper right now.

A Thought about Obama

First off, I would like to congratulate Mr. Obama for winning the presidential election and being the first African American to do so.

Now... before I get serious with my thoughts about the election(..which will probably be another post) I would like to just throw out this one thought....

Wouldn't it be really cool if Barack Obama had an Afro? I mean, we could call him FrObama.

Can we see what that would look like? Anybody with some form of photo shop or any other form of advanced technology? Anybody... CNN? ...Bueller?

Goal Failed/ New Friend

Like I said in last night's post, I've got nothing as far a poem. but I like I also said, I'm not giving up. The world will see this. It's time to start getting excited! I'm excited!

So Work lately...

Well, work is so much better when you have a friend and in the last few weeks, I've been getting to know this kid named Zach. I consider this guy, the "work" buddy... but also, the "outside of work" buddy.

So here is what I've learned of him so far:

• He's a fan of the major Chicago sports teams, The Bears and The Cubs
• He attends Goshen College
• He works at Martins in Nappanee
• He has a relationship in Christ
• He has taken time out of his life to eat at places like, Taco Time

• He attends NMC on Sundays... including The Connection and The Effect

• He understands my jokes... if indeed I'm telling any

• He procrastinates... maybe, I don't know
• He enjoys getting up early for work

Poem Updates:

I've got nothing. That doesn't me that I'm not gonna come up with anything, it means that I'm not gonna have anything set by my goal date... which is tomorrow. Don't worry, something will be done. Something has to be done. It's all about how I wanna use my tongue... for encouragement. So... yep.

Had a good night tonight. After spending over a year avoiding it, I decided to try going to The Effect.(college age/20 something group that meets at church on Sunday night). I'm glad I went, because I needed to hear that kind of message. So yeah... yay! More on this later, I guess.

I'm not a poet and I know it.

I've been thinking lately(lately, being the last 4 minutes), that I would like to start writing poetry. I've witnessed a lot during these past few weeks and I believe a lot of people just need some encouragement. It would be nice to write some very encouraging poetry. So this is my goal, to have a least one good poem by this time next week. If I fail, it's probably because I'm still in the process of brainstorming. I'll see what I can do.

Maybe I can use some encouragement as well.

To the Rays: Whatever! Really, where did all of your fans come from?

To the Red Sox: You failed! I mean, the Rays!?!? Come on... seriously!

To the Phillies: I'll stand behind you!

To the Cubs: meh!

To Heath Ledger: They should retire the Joker... meaning no one should play him ever again! You will always be known as the Joker... and that "mountain" guy, but mostly the Joker. Good job.

In honor of the one year anniversary

I went to grab some food from Taco Bell at the exact same time that the tornado hit, one year ago.

Nothing happened this time around. It was just a little cooler.

Remembering One Year Ago...

Tonight marks the one year anniversary of the EF3 tornado that ripped through Nappanee destroying homes and demolishing businesses. Wow! I can't believe it's been one year. Since then homes and businesses have been repaired or rebuilt, including a brand new Taco Bell/KFC, and a brand new home for Dairy Queen.

Since I wasn't much of a blogger a year ago, I never really posted my thoughts of the event or even my story of what was going on that night. Now that I've been keeping a consistant blog, it's time for me to give you the timeline of that night as well as Friday and Saturday. So here you have it.

It's been one year since that night and I remember it like it was yesterday. I can still smell and feel the warmth of the air. The tornado was called the EF3 and it was, it really was... ok, time to be serious.

Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007

9:00PM - Flipped on the TV to watch The Office, only to be interrupted by Mike Hoffman's weather report. There were tornado warnings. To tell you the truth, I was just wanting to watch The Office. I wasn't really worried about anything, because I just thought nothing was gonna happen.

9:55PM - Headed out to go to work. Walking out of my apartment, I remember looking to the western sky's and thinking, "Hmm, it does feel really weird out tonight. We might actually see severe storm, possibly a tornado."

Around 10:15PM - Working in Martins, walking around we hear a tornado siren. I just don't think anything of it.

Around 10:20PM - The tornado hits Nappanee. Again, standing in the middle of a grocery store, we had no idea what was going on. We heard noise and then thought, yep, there is a tornado. One of the store managers runs back and tells us to get to the back room. We go back, the tornado has passed.

10:25PM - 10:40PM - Confused and worried, I spent all this time trying to contact my parents. At that time, none of us knew where this tornado hit. The cell phone I had, was very low on battery power. I called my parent's house, but no answer. I was worried that maybe it hit that part of town and then just passed north of Martins, maybe over the golf course. I was worried that my family was hurt or maybe killed. I then tried contacting my brother in Fort Wayne. His phone was dead and I didn't have their home phone number. Finally I got a hold of my dad.

Me: Dad, are you guys ok? What happened? Where did it hit?
Dad: We're ok. What are you talking about?
Me: I'm talking about the tornado that just went through Nappanee! I'm calling to see if you guys are ok. Do you know what's going on?
Dad: There wasn't a tornado. The sirens went off, but there wasn't much of a storm.

At that point I was relieved, knowing that the tornado wasn't near my family and that everyone was ok. I went on to explain what was going on and then my phone died.

10:45PM - We walked up to the front of the store and looked out. All we saw was darkness and in the darkness the flashing lights of all kinds of emergency vehicles. A police officer drives up and we open the front doors. He asks if everyone is ok and then goes on to kind of describe the path of the storm, stating that Dairy Queen and Taco Bell was gone. We knew that our boss's house was in the path as well. We spent time calling him and he then came to the store along with a lot of Martin's CEO Representatives. The big boys!

Around 11:00PM - They all arrive and check on the store. It was kind of a big deal, considering the store had just opened up a few weeks earlier. We then had to shut off the main generator due to the fact that there was a gas leak.

Around Midnight - With a lot of help from the employees that arrived we spent hours pulling dairy, meat, produce stuff out of all the coolers. The coolers in the back were still up and running. A dry ice guy came and we started putting up dry ice in all the freezers. All of this in the dark with just a few flashlights.

The rest of the night(early morning)- We got the power back on. The manager wanted to get the store all ready, for we were gonna be open the next day. I turned on my phone to see if I could do anything with the few seconds of power that I had. I had all kinds of voicemail messages. Some of them from past students of small groups. Everyone knowing where I lived and really concerned. I was able to get a text message out, but then the phone went dead. With the power back on it just turned back into a regular working night, getting all things stocked and ready for when the store would open. All through the night the phones were ringing, people wanted to know if we would be open.

Friday, Oct. 19

Around 6:00AM - Employees arrived, still not sure when the store was gonna open. The rest of the night crew got everything put up.

8:00AM - It was growing lighter outside. It was time to walk out and see the destruction. A few employees and I walked up to the intersection of CR 7 and US 6. We walked up slowly. Standing there looking across the road, it was an eeire feeling. The sky in the background along with the destruction, looking down US 6 was a very eerie sight. My jaw dropped. It was the first time I've ever seen anything like this, live, and not on a movie or tv.

I then looked over at my apartment complex. We walked over there and there was tons of debris all around in the parking lot. Some of the buildings were damaged. Huge wooden beams sticking out of the roofs. Walking around I noticed that 80% of all the vehicles were damaged, by either hail, tree branches, or any other type of debris. My car was parked at Martins. We walked into the building and down stairs to my apartment. The power was still out. I had nothing but flashlight that you crank to keep it alive. My place is in the basement of the building. It was pretty dark down there. Instead of saying it on here, just ask me about walking around. It's kind of funny. The only thing damaged from my apartment, were the window hinges. I left my windows open that night.

I then grabbed some stuff and went to stay at my parent's place for the weekend. Heading back on Saturday morning, the land lady said that it isn't safe to stay there and that she ordered everybody to stay out until we were told otherwise. So I had to stay at my parent's house for a few weeks. When I was able to move back in, I was told that she was gonna deduct the those weeks from next month's rent. That was nice.

Where's the Sausage?

While in Sandusky, we stopped to eat at one of the Wendy's. I was surprised to see that they actually have a breakfast menu. That's pretty interesting. I hope that eventually all Wendy's around here will add that as well. Then I could actually have Wendy's for breakfast, lunch, and supper. It would never get old.

The Highlights!

I'm gonna give you some highlights/ from my past weekend.

Friday:

• Got a haircut
• Went to Fort Wayne to spend the night before going to Cedar Point
• Hanging out watching tv and the puppet show.
• Got to see my nephew before he went to bed

Saturday:

• Woke up around 7:30 - that's sleeping in for me.
• Driving to CP and actually listening to some music that I brought, even if there were some stupid songs.
• Beautiful weather at Cedar Point
• $5 foot longs
• Magnum XL-200 - that's always a highlight for me because it is my favorite coaster at CP
• Jut walking around the park with Nate, Jolyn, and Kayla - laughing and talking and finding the look a-likes.
• Cedar Point pretzel - probably one of the longest lines to wait in.
• The Graveyard Shift - one of CP's HalloWeekend shows. Some good music and stuff.
• Looking at all the decorations around the park. It's as if the residents of Boneville(from the train) took over the park.
• Leaving the park to set up the tents at the camp ground, followed by dinner at Wendy's.... mmm.
• The Gemini, two rides. The first time me and Nate's train won. Second time, Jolyn and Kayla. Nate jumped off the train pretty fast and ran down to be the first on the Midway. I think he even pushed some little kids out of the way just so he could win... haha... just kidding.
• Riding the train - this has become like the tradition of going to Cedar Point. It's just a time to just relax and just hangout. I'm not talking about riding the train from one point to another, I'm talking about taking a few laps around and then getting off.
• Fright Zone - I was hoping that Kayla would get scared, but she didn't. The Skull is very funny and he can actually scare people more than the screamsters in the fright zones.
• CarnEvil - a kid was very scared to walk through, but his family wanted to. It seemed like every monster went up to him and scared him. It was funny, because one time he actually fell down and the monster was just standing there hovering over him. Poor kid. He did end up laughing at it. It was also funny because at the end, there was this guy with a chainsaw and he ran right at the family. The kid screamed. It was all classic.
• Terror Island - It was pretty cool. Nothing really scared us, but it was just something fun to walk around and see these monster pirates. Kind of reminded me of Pirates of the Caribbean(not to mention that fact that in line, they were playing the theme from the movies) There was this guy that was attached this this bungee thing and he would just fling right out at the guests walking through. It was pretty cool.
• MaxAir - it was pretty fun to get Kayla to ride it. I think she liked it. To tell you the truth, I think that ride is starting to freak me out more and more(which is a good thing). It always feel like the thing is gonna fly off or something, especially when it starts slowing down because there is this jerk to it.
• Fear Faire - Just Nate and I went through, but this one actually freaked me out. The fog was really thick and the thing was kind of a maze. We didn't know where to go have the time. We came to this dead end and this thing jumped out and scared us. It was kind of funny to then watch everyone else do the same thing. We finally found our way out.
• Riding Maverick as our final ride. It was Kayla's first time on and my first time riding it at night. It was pretty fun. It's one of my favorite coasters at the park.

Sunday:

• Sleeping in.
• Eating at Steak'n Shake - 4.99 Frisco Melts and fries(the bill was screwed up at first, but then they got it right)
• Sleeping on the way home - it's been awhile since I've actually got to sleep coming home from Cedar Point. Usually I'm the one driving.
• Coming home and eating Hacienda chips and salsa while watching Sunday Night Football and MLB playoffs.

So that was the weekend. I really don't wanna get into all that happened when we were leaving the parking lot. If you wanna know, just ask me. I think I'll put some pictures up, but not now. If you have Facebook, I've uploaded some.

CP Game: Look A-Likes

Everytime I go on a trip with friends or family, we always play this game called Who Ever Finds the Most Celebrity Look A-Likes Wins. (I kind of just made up that title right now, but it's pretty much what we do.)

We played this game at Cedar Point and here were the results. (yes, it would have been better if actually had pictures of the look a-like to compare with the real thing but I wasn't gonna go up to some random person and just take their pictures. this is to give you an idea of what these people this look like. The (Hallo)Weekend

I wanna post about my weekend, but I'm not in the mood for typing it out right now. I know I'm not really good at following through and posting what I say I will post about, but I will try to do this.

It was a very nice weekend. The weather was perfect(even though I wasn't really wanting perfect). It made for a nice weekend for camping and walking around the park in shorts. The reason I didn't want such good weather was because I knew it was gonna be a very busy day at Cedar Point and if the weather was cooler and maybe a chance of rain, then the park wouldn't have been as busy. But still, it was a good day.

So I will just have to post about it another time. I will even have to post about the trip out of the parking lot... grrr.... idiots!

Yeah... something to clear up.

I stated earlier that I was going with the Rays, well I think I just said that because I hate the White Sox and they were playing the White Sox! That was a completely stupid post and I think I'm just gonna delete it.

I really like the Red Sox, so I'm not gonna cheer against them.

HalloWeekends

So next weekend I'm going up to Cedar Point with some other Ingalls's to experience HalloWeekends. It's a trip I'm excited about and really looking forward to. Cedar Point usually does an awesome job at decorating the park and creating some terrifying, exciting, and very fun, attractions. Some of the haunted houses are okay, but the fright zones are where it's at.

This year they introduce Terror Island. You walk through and cross a bridge to Millennium Force island(one of the islands in the lagoon that has the huge turn around from Millennium Force) and it's got like a haunted pirate theme. It sounds pretty cool.

Day 4

Water is awesome!

I feel as if I have cheated, because I was at Mc. Donalds the other day and I drank an orange Hi-C. I know it isn't pop, but still just as bad. I'm gonna have to watch my intake on stuff like that.

I have been drinking a lot of bottled water, so that's good. I smile, because I know how much pop I would have drank in the last few days.

So lets bring on... the milk and the juice and more water. I'm just gonna have to cut back on the orange Hi-C, but that's usually what I get when I eat breakfast at Mc. Donalds because it's cheaper.

Rays The Roof!

With the Chicago Cubs having one more loss before they are out of the post season, I find myself pulling for another team. An AL team and nope, it's not the Red Sox. I sit here right now, wanting the Tampa Bay Rays to pull through and make it to the World Series and win it all. I personally think they deserve it. They are a team that kind of came out of no where and just rose above everyone during the season. They seem to play as if they really want it, unlike some other MLB teams, *cough, cough*, the Cubbies.

They are playing the Chicago White Sox(a team which I hate the most) right now and they are down few runs. I hope they come back and win and the win the next series, followed by the World Series... well, unless there is some miracle in which the Cubs win three in a row and move on to win the NLCS and eventually play in the World Series, then I will say "Go Cubs Go!" But for now, I'm cheering for this fairly new Tampa Bay team.

Yes, I am still a Cubs fan, but if they are out, I've gotta have something to look forward to!

I've stated before that I'm giving up soda, well now would be a great time to pick up drinking... ok just kidding.

Some bad words.

I'm gonna admit there were some bad words said about the Cubs tonight. Out of respect for my viewers, I will not repeat what was said.. by me and others.

I will say softly, "Go Red Sox"

It's What Starts(or ends) on Oct. 1

Ok, So I've put a lot of thought into this and I have decided that it is the end of soda pop for me... well, maybe not the end, but more of a break from drinking pop. This will begin on Oct. 1 and I guess my goal will be one month and then so on and so on. The big goal would be for me to go until the start of 2009... the bigger goal would be a year... we'll see how this goes.

Why?
Well, I've noticed others giving up pop or fasting from it or something and I've decided that it is my turn to try something different.

Some Reasons for "no pop":

• need to enjoy this tasty liquid called, "water"


• Healthier/Lose some weight - I've seen people give up pop for awhile and end up losing some weight. I think that would be great. I'm not saying that it's a big weight loss, but I do drink a lot of pop. Anyone who goes out to eat with me will say that I always ask for several refills... That's a lot of calories and such. I know drinking other stuff can be just the same, but I think water is gonna be my main choice.


• Saving some $$$ - since I drink a lot of pop, I do spend a lot buying pop. Water and other beverages can be cheaper.

So the next few days I'm enjoying some sweet, sweet, nectar before it is bye-bye. When I'm done with this pop break, and I'm back to drinking Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, Pepsi, etc., I'm gonna start drinking Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Mountain Dew, Diet Pepsi, Diet etc.

So to you I say... "Cheers".

-The Cubs Clinched their Division
-Notre Dame lost(that's a good thing, because I strongly dislike the Irish)
-Apple Festival
-watched and fell asleep during Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End

Sunday
-Church
-Bears game, a loss(very frustrating and I'm very upset with the team)
-Colts lost(a good thing, because I strongly dislike the Colts)
-Slept from like 5PM - 11PM and just went back to sleep and slept all night

So..a pretty good weekend.

First, Michigan got killed by Notre Dame.
Then the Bears get beat by the Panthers.
But... speaking of Panthers... NorthWood did beat Goshen, so that's at least one good game!
